报告人简介：

现任美国自然历史博物馆昆虫学部（Division of Invertebrate Zoology, American Museum of Natural History）研究馆研究员。1993年获得堪萨斯大学（University of Kansas）生理学和细胞生物学学士学位以及化学学士学位，1998年获得康奈尔大学（Cornell University）昆虫学博士学位。2000年至2023年历任堪萨斯大学（University of Kansas）副教授、教授和特聘教授。同时，1998年至今担任美国自然历史博物馆（American Museum of Natural History）研究员。

Engel教授长期从事昆虫分类、系统演化及行为功能等方面的研究，研究对象包括现生及化石类群，研究成果丰硕。发现的现生及化石新属种多达1000余种，在Nature、PNAS、Nature Communications、Science Advances、Annual Review of Entomology、Current Biology等杂志上发表论文900余篇，出版昆虫进化相关书籍两部：《Evolution of the Insects》和《Innumerable Insects: The Story of the Most Diverse and Myriad Animals on Earth》。2008年获古生物学会的查尔斯·舒赫特奖（Charles Schuchert Award）；2009年获伦敦林奈学会的两百周年纪念奖章（Bicentenary Medal of the Linnean Society of London）；2014年获堪萨斯大学学术成就奖（Scholarly Achievement Award of the University of Kansas）；2015年获中国科学院国际合作奖（International Cooperation Award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences）；2017年当选为美国昆虫学会院士（Fellow of the Entomological Society of America），并获该学会的托马斯·萨伊奖（Thomas Say Award）； 2022年当选为美国科学促进会会士（Fellow of AAAS）。
