主讲人简介:

Vijai Bhadauria,植物保护学院教授。Dr. Bhadauria received his Ph.D. from China Agricultural University (CAU) under the supervision of Prof. You-Liang Peng. Before joining CAU in 2020, he worked as a principal investigator at the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Government of Canada, Swift Current, Saskatchewan, where he led research on the quantitative genetics of fungal disease resistance in cereals. Dr. Bhadauria’s current research centers around maize pathology, with a primary focus on anthracnose disease and, by extension, other major fungal diseases and staple food crops. He has authored 79 SCI articles and 2 monographs. Dr. Bhadauria currently teaches an undergraduate course, Outline of Plant Protection, and a graduate course, Pathogenomics.

研究介绍:

Maize is one of the top three staple food crops worldwide, also serving as livestock feed and a source of biofuel. However, its sustainable production is increasingly threatened by fungal diseases, including anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum graminicola, which is one of the top five fungal diseases in the USA and Canada and an emerging disease in China. Dr. Bhadauria’s research integrates molecular genetics and genomics to investigate the maize-anthracnose fungus interaction and follows a hierarchical approach, ranging from fundamental research to translational applications, with the overarching goal of developing sustainable, broad-spectrum fungal disease resistance in maize and other staple food crops. Under this overarching theme, his research focuses on six key directions:

1. Molecular genetics and genomics of fungal disease susceptibility and resistance in maize

2. Pathogenomics of emerging fungal pathogens of maize

3. Genetic and functional diversity of minichromosomes in maize-invading fungal pathogens

4. Cross-species transfer of disease resistance (maize, sorghum, common beans and rice)

5. Microbiome-mediated disease resistance

6. Peptide-activated disease resistance
